3000 Dads, Pregnancy Mobile App For First-time Fathers, Part 2: Ideation

3000Dads is a mobile game app designed to create the consistent involvement of the dad-to-be to their expectant mother and the new child, emphasizing the dad-to-be's role throughout the entire pregnancy and child-rearing.

Achievement

The app is still in development, but our stakeholders have shown positive feedback after the presentation. We secured the first fund, and now we continued the development stages.

Content Concept

I made a management app for new dads  that turns tasks to game quests

In a short amount of time and finance sponsor, we only got to choose to optimize content, quest-hunting flow, and reward system. Besides that, shopping, booking, payment, community, and chat will be focused on the next release.

Content

There are already lots of pregnancy apps for moms in the region. You can find information about childbirth, pregnancy care, and self-care everywhere. So what differentiates the app for new dads compared to mom apps?

Keeping in mind that mom apps are everywhere and dad's app is nowhere to be found in Vietnam, fatherhood during pregnancy sharing is pretty normal in the West.

Baby development content

We skipped the information that could be found anywhere about the fetus's development timeline, instead, we only show the shocking truths, or well-known myths about pregnancy care and break them into small pieces of content.

Stay in the moment

We limit the previews of all 41 weeks' timelines and only allow users to view the week they're on. Due to interview gatherings, young parents tend to read about the weekly development of the baby all at once. They're so excited they rush into more coming weeks and reportedly missed out on the present week, on both emotional moment and information accuracy about embryos → We seek to profit from the 41-week-timeline's limited preview by allowing users to pick between watching ads or subscribing to a premium account to unlock the whole timeline previews.

Action

Check out the mom's view, Emotion care, Baby development in dad’s voice, Checklist (leading to Quest page), Don't say this list (Quest page), and Timeline of the baby's development (Timeline page).

Personalization

When you logged in the first time, the app will ask you to fill in your info, your wife's nickname, and your baby's expected nickname as well. We use those nicknames to match our content to replace where "mom" and "baby" pronouns fit in.

Quest-hunting

Knowing that new dads want to perfect the experience of mom-to-be, in a fun and manageable way, instead of showing a Todo and checklist, we thought a quest-hunting game would be fun. That idea was actually from my developers’ team, who reminded me of a common experience we (including me) had when we were in our teenage years - online games.

First-time Wireframing & Prototyping

We tried the simplest-looking wireframing to try to focus on the gaming-based idea

I chose to go with Invision Freehand for the wireframing stage since the WFH environment urged me to share real-time wireframes with my team We later would never use Invision Freehand again because there was some limit to creativity but I did think it saved time to be visually creative at the wireframing stage. We went a little bit deeper on Questing and Baby Development pages while leaving all the rest of the other pages on drafting, waiting for content enrichment.

First-round Visual Concept

I wanted to express a gaming feel by following dark theme

I chose to go with Invision Freehand for the wireframing stage since the WFH environment urged me to share real-time wireframes with my team We later would never use Invision Freehand again because there was some limit to creativity but I did think it saved time to be visually creative at the wireframing stage. The design system has not yet been completed and finalized but the visual concept was approved with the dark theme.

3000Dads name has not been remarked legally as well but the meaning behind it was enough to attract some careful stakeholders by the time it was presented to them.
